[2026 October DCTB Mindfulness Tip]
We are the ocean of Awareness
The only thing we can control
is the focus of our Attention. When Attention rests on Awareness,
action spontaneously arises as
essential goodness…
of life supporting life.
Resting our attention on Awareness is an ongoing practice. It is not a project where we do it once and are done. It is a lifetime of dedication to the Path, building the discipline that will use our habit of practice to return our focus even when we are distracted.
As we develop this discipline, we often find ourselves flailing in the river of life. We grasp and cling and try to control things that are not ours to control. The good news is on the Path, no effort is wasted. It all helps to strengthen our practice.
One way to bring your attention back to Awareness is to use an affirmation and contemplation such as this:
I am receiving and accepting support of all kinds from Mother Nature.
Inhale and receive the life giving breath.
Exhale and watch Mother Nature receive the breath from you.
Feel the weight of gravity on your body as the warm supportive hug from Mother Nature, always present and never wavering.
Begin to reframe every interaction and every experience as an offering. How are you accepting what you are receiving?
Notice all of these, and do not judge.
Continue watching and allow your attention to rest on the Awareness of all that is happening.
From the vast resting place, action naturally arises in the forms of compassion, loving-kindness, equanimity, and generosity.
There is no need to force anything. All of the emotions, sensations, and thoughts are welcome here in the ocean of Awareness.
And when in doubt about what to do, always be gentle and kind with yourself and all others. Mother Nature will continue to hold you, no matter what.
