[2026 Aug DCTB Mindfulness Tip]
From time to time, we all need a little nudge to keep us on our path. We live in extraordinary times, filled with endless choices. We have instant communication with the option to reply later or not at all. We can travel from one side of the planet to the other in a day. Technology is impacting every aspect of our lives at the same time as natural wonders surround us. While it may feel like our world is on the verge of imploding, there are forces at work maintaining a balance between everything that is erupting within and around us. We are all life, and life always seeks life.
With everything that is happening, it’s normal to feel overwhelmed at times. Whenever we experience anything unfamiliar, the brain reacts with fear. The body’s automatic response is to attempt to return to what we knew, even if that state was painful. Our mindfulness practice allows us to watch this reaction and respond with gentleness. We can nudge ourselves from fear into curiosity.
This little nudge is not forceful. It rises from compassion, from the sincere wish for all beings to awaken to their Buddha-nature and be at peace. We don’t need to argue or fight about it. Simply bringing the focus of our mind to the situation starts the shift to a happier state.
Having reminders of our path provides us with a little nudge. Buddhist art on the walls. A crystal or pretty stone intentionally placed on our desk. An app like Light Mind Meditation reminding us to focus on the high teachings. Flowers or a potted plant introducing purity into our space. A piece of jewelry to bring our mind into the present moment.
However going it alone is often not enough. Most of us need a reminder of the power within us that can only be revealed by spending time with like-minded people. We are social beings, and when we associate with others on the path, it strengthens the connection to our path. When we meet up to meditate together, to discuss the practices and share our discoveries, we form more than friendships. We build a social and energetic ring of Light with each other that provides a little nudge whenever we get lost in the world.
As practitioners of Trikaya Buddhism, we have no interest in converting others. We don’t need to convince anyone of anything. Instead we share our existence through public classes so those who are already drawn to this practice can find their way home. We provide this little nudge as a form of selfless service.
Because you’re reading this, there’s a good chance you are already on the path. Perhaps you are seeking a deeper connection with your true nature. Maybe you need a little nudge to remember the unreasonable joy and innate peace and silly laughter within you. When you’re ready to come home, we’re here and happy to help. We always love seeing new and old friends.
